Fall Trends
Hey guys! So although it's still in the high 80's here
in Pittsburgh, seeing my favorite boutiques change over to fall collections has
me pumped for the cooler weather. Fall has always been my favorite season. I
love the bold hues and fresh autumnal palette of tobacco, charcoal, military
green, plum, mustard and blush. I'm usually a cold person, so layering has always been my jam. And what's not to love about plush, oversize sweaters
and over-the-knee boots? With that in mind, I've rounded up a few of my
favorite trends that are on the scene for the upcoming months.
Prints on Prints - Try mixing different
graphic prints while staying within the same color palette. For beginner
pattern mixers, try sticking with stripes,
especially black and white, which go with everything.
They're so simple, they're pretty much the neutral of prints. Graphic prints go
great with each other and with more complex or organic prints like florals or
animal prints. These more complicated prints can also look nice together, but
it's not as easy to pull off — color and scale become more important, so it can
get frustrating if you're not totally comfortable with the idea of print-mixing
to begin with. I love this simplicity of Aimee Song's look below.

Power of Plaid - The power pattern of revolutionary grunge. This old school print can flawlessly be dressed up for the office or down for Sunday brunch with the girls. Go for a relaxed look with an open button down and distressed denim. Try pairing a fitted button up tucked into a tailored skirt for a professional vibe.

Calvin Klein - Twill Plaid Silk Tunic Dress
Barbara Bui - Plaid Coat (similar)
Suno - Patterned Wool Top (similar)

Masculine loves Feminine - By mixing the two styles you get effortless edginess, yet
polished and pulled together. My favorite way to achieve this look is with sweet
lace dresses, prim pleated skirts and feminine floral prints styled with super
slouchy silk trousers, over-sized wool coats, tough leather jackets and boyish
button up shirts. A light and dark color combo can really help with the contrast
too.
